AV and TV

This photo I've taken uses the AV mode which allows you to change the aperture whilst the camera changes the shutter speed. The effect overall gives a shallow depth of field, then shows all the finer detail of the flower and the delicate rain drops. I like the vibrant contrasting yellow and greens and like how it emphasis's on the flower then the background is blurred.

Focus Points

In this photo I set the focus point to the centre so that this would be in focus then around the outside it would be blurred, overall it work fairly well as the detail in the middle is shown to develop this further i will try other points of focus and different settings.

HDR High Dynamic Range

This was one of my first attempts of HDR which overall I think makes the whole thing look quite artificial and too exaggerated which is what its supposed to do. But on the other hand i do like the finer detail that comes out when you do this effect as it gives in depth texture which sometimes a camera doesn't show to its full.

Chaos & Order

Kirsty Mitchell

This photo by Kirsty Mitchell reflects my chaos theme with the overgrown forest and the intertwining branches, the figure in the distance also shows order with the well dressed figure which gives a more serious and sole feel.

Gursky

This famous photo called Rhein links with my theme order by the way its made up of uniformed lines and a very simple scenery, it also has no distinct focus point which again shows order.

Gerhard Richter

This artist uses an interest effect in this piece which looks like smuggled paint breaking up the photo which could show chaos with the running paint, the the buildings in the background can also show order how the are uniformed together created structure.

Film Photography

This was one of my favourite film photographs I took becuase the shadows of the banches and tree stumps give an eerie mood. The trailing path adds depth to the photo as it makes the eye follow it.  There is also lots of natural shape and compotition with all the trees almost tangled together.

Experiment- double exposure final

Monochromatic version- this was my preferred finsihed photo at the end as after the colour photo i played about with the gradiant and made it black and white which reflects the photo i was looking at emulating. The photo has more drama and contrast, but again it needs to be less busy landscape and the hands need to be taken at a birds eye veiw angle. Also i will fade the phot from the centre of the hands to show more of the finger tips.

Colour version- this worked fairly successfully as it shows the landscape through the hands but overall the landscape is too busy and there isn't a main focus point. To develop this further I will take a more isolated photo and play about the contrast and levels.

I've tried to emulate this photo by experimenting with taking photos of cupped hands and using landscape photos to double expose. This uses high contrast clouds which stand out and then the distance is very clear which gives the boat the main focus point. The high contrast of the black and white adds drama to the photo which again draws the eye

Repeated Experiment

I first made my hand photo black and white and added some contrast by changing the levels which gave more tone and natural shadows.

I then added my waterfall composition on top of the original layer and also made this black and white. I then changed the opacity to around 70% which gave the overlying, sightly transparent effect. Finally I rubbed out the edges of the waterfall shot to reveal areas of the fingers like the original copy. The waterfall photo also worked more effectively then my first experiment as this has a focal point in the centre like the boat which my original didn't so nothing drew the eye to the photo.
